Ear Shaping (otoplasty)

Prominent ears can be caused by a variety of anatomical features.  Otoplasty is designed to address the individual problems and produce a natural appearance to the ear.  Performed as an outpatient, the procedures are performed in our AAAHC certified office surgery center. Typically performed with an intravenous sedation, many patients have comfortably opted to have the procedure performed with just a local anesthetic. For most patients, the procedure takes about an hour to perform.

Patients go home with a headwrap in place that we remove in the office the next day. They may see some swelling and bruising but most patients are able to return to work or school within a day or so. The incisions are carefully hidden and absorbable sutures that do not need to be removed, are used.

Patients are asked to wear a headband to support the ear position when they sleep for about 6 weeks.
