Lip Enhancement

Dr. Schneider offers a variety of procedures to change the size and shape of the lips. These range from injectables, to fat injections, to threading procedures.  The procedure chosen depends on the patients goals and whether other procedures are being performed simultaneously.

Lip Enhancement that lasts 10-12 months is typically performed with Juvederm. A local anesthetic is used so that the procedure is comfortable. Then Juvederm is injected either into the lip line, the lip body, or both, depeding upon the enhancement the patient desires. In some patients, injections at the angles of the mouth can be used to help pick up the slight downturn of the lip that patients find unattractive. The great benefit of Juvederm and this approach is that patients can watch and monitor the incremental increase in the lip so they are comfortable with the result.

Fat injections produce a longer lasting result in patients who require a more voluminous augmentation. The fat is removed from the tummy or hips with a small amount of liposuction. The fat is then prepared and then injected into the anesthetized lips. Many patients will also have fat injected into the face to counteract the volume loss associated with aging. The procedure takes about 30-45 minutes to perform.

Threading techniques are usually used when a patient is undergoing another surgical procedure. So for example, when a patient is undergoing a facelift, some of the loose tissue that is removed and typically discarded, is used to thread through the lips. This produces a very natural and very long lasting augmentation to a lip that has aged and lost volume with time.
